Andy, do you choose not to act as though you have these powers out of love or fear? …does that question make sense? …what I think I’m trying to get at is, well, acting as though you have these powers could be problematic because of the way that power corrupts and makes people think that they’re one up on other people. However, acting as though you have them could also be a positive thing if these are God-given powers that we can and should use openly to express God’s grace, care for each other and to set people free from guilt and sin! I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer here, I’m kinda just playing with the idea… I’ll keep thinking on it.

I love this passage too. It reminds me that I can only really grasp who Jesus is and what he did for me, and us all, through what God himself has revealed to me.

I guess what I mean is that TRULY knowing Jesus is not an intellectual exercise for me, but a gift from God. It’s humbling to come back to this passage and remember that no matter how much I think I know, and how clever I think I am, I can only really know Jesus, and also only really understand my own true potential, through my relationship with him.

Perhaps that is why jesus tells his disciples to keep this knowledge to themselves, because it’s down to him to reveal himself to people.

I love this passage, as it is a question I find myself having to answer afresh. It’s not just a theory or learned writing but that is required from the heart.

On Alpha – Why did Jesus have to die, I think we only really get the impacts as we answer this question. God (son of God) died, it effects everything.

Wow this is an amazing passage, May mu answer be like Peter’s every time.

… the power to kick out evil spirits, the power to tenderly care for the bruised and hurt lives… and later the power to forgive sins…

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Do you think we have been given all these powers too?

In some ways I find being seen for what I really am quite freeing; firstly because I waste so much time and energy trying to hide it because I fear rejection if people know the real me; secondly because God know’s the real me anyway so I am wasting my time trying to hide from him
