It is interesting to note a diffeeernce between this passage and the one where Moses encountered God at the burning bush. When God commissioned Moses for the job he had to do it was in a state of humbling... removing his sandals, but here we have the Israelites told to be in a state of readiness and of specific note is that their sandals had to be on. There are times when it is right to remove our sandals, humble ouselves before our mighty God, but we also need to be ready to move on....put our sandals on. I am struck by the fact that I dont often take my sandals off as I approach God, but then how slow I am to put them on when God wants me to be ready for the next stage of my journey with him.... How often do I want to keep my comfy slippers on and stay in my comfort zone rather than being open to listen to what God is saying... and yet those times when the sandals are on for readiness are a real time of blessing!
