“But the land couldn’t support both of them; they had too many possessions.” – a striking consequence of being rich in possessions especially in a society on transition from nomadism to settlement – it becomes harder to find a place to live and to stay – my consequence for my own nomadic life: “Try to travel light!” and “simplify your life” as moving and arriving becomes easier…

“quarrels broke out between Abram’s shepherds and Lot’s shepherds” – as the shepherds felt the thread more immediately? – is that already the beginning of the rat race?

“isn’t there plenty of land out there?”

this phrase struck me and makes me think that so often fights between individuals, churches, communities and nations need someone have perspective and to say “hang on a minute, why are we fighting over this little patch, isn’t there plenty of land out there?”

When I’m tired or stressed I get easily irritated and grumpy (hard to believe) and at the same time blinkered into getting wound up about the little patch I’m fighting over.

“Let’s not have fighting between us, between your shepherds and my shepherds. After all, we’re family.

There he built an altar to God.

The two sentences are the two things that stood out for me… families often do fight, but is it what we should be doing especially as people who should be loving one another….And we are part of a worldwide family of humanity but we need to start loving those we don\’t know or even like as much as we love those we do know and like!!

At the end of the journey he worshipped…. how important is it that we worship where we find ourselves?
