Jesus went on: “Does anyone bring a lamp home and put it under a washtub or beneath the bed? Don’t you put it up on a table or on the mantel? We’re not keeping secrets, we’re telling them; we’re not hiding things, we’re bringing them out into the open.”Are you listening to this? Really listening?
“Listen carefully to what I am saying—and be wary of the shrewd advice that tells you how to get ahead in the world on your own. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity. Stinginess impoverishes.”
Crikey – God’s telling me these messages a lot.
I heard Malcolm from Liverpool dream talking about “boasting” last Sunday – which got me thinking that I really need to boast about how great God is more often.
And on the topic of being a “light” – I saw Evan Almighty last night, which centres on the world being changed by one Act of Random Kindness (ARK) at a time.
Is the Big Man trying to tell me something perhaps?
check out http://www.harvestni.co.uk where under the link \’teachings\’ you can get verse by verse, chapter by chapter Bible teaching. It\’s really good.
Quick suggestion: I would suggest that those commenting on these verses go to http://www.biblegateway.org to look additionally at some more literal translations. No translation is perfect (there\’s always a compromise between readability and \’literalness\’), but the problem with throught-for-thought translation is that it really involves interpretation as well as translation on the part of the translator. This can be helpful for those not familiar with the Bible, but we must be aware that if we are interpreting someone else\’s interpretation, we are more prone to error than if we are interpreting only once from a literal rendering of the original text. This is because the interpretation by the translator may not be correct, so we end up interpreting an incorrect intepretation!!
