It comes from Daniel 7:13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence" As far as I’m aware, when Jesus calls himself “the son of man” he’s using a title that would have been recognised as Messianic – that is, he would have subtly been calling himself God. How did this distinguish him from anybody else? Am I being dense?
