who are you?

This is an aside. So far over 30 people have signed up to receive this as a daily email, while others get in in their newsreader, or just visit the blog.

Inevitably, a minority of us are the gobby ones (er… I mean those who are brave and generous enough to share our thoughts and questions in the ‘comments’) while most prefer just to read. And that’s great. But in an attempt tempt a few of you to make your first comment here’s a simple invite to introduce yourself.

All you need to say is your name. If you like you can add some other info, eg

-Anything else about yourself (eg where you live)Â

-Are you in any way connected with one of the Dream groups?

-How are you finding this daily reading thing so far?

-Which passage have you enjoyed the most/least so far?

-anything else at all.

btw if like me you’re one of the brave ones who comments already, this still includes you!

Hi I’m Pam from Dream Haydock. Must be the most “gobby” cos I’m the first post! Actually I’m working late on a Saturday night and happened to be at my desk when this came through. That’s sad. So – I’m sad, or gobby, or both! Am I bovvered tho? Richard used the word “extrovert” which I thought was polite! :o)
I’m loving the Dream Lectio especially other peoples comments because they help me to see the scriptures from all sorts of different and refreshing angles. Also – I’ve never been that disciplined about Bible reading and it really feels good to be doing so – even better – with others! No one passage has been my favourite so far because they all speak to me or at least interest me in DIFFERENT ways. I think also, sometimes the blogging acts as a confession corner ….. some of us are saying “Hey – this is an area I struggle in” and that’s cool too. There are bits of the Bible that can be confusing or even quite scary and if you own up to that in a post, someone might just come back and post “Hey – no, you need to look at it this way…..” It’s all helpful – especially if, like me, you lead a madly hectic life and find it hard to fit in Bible study groups! None of us are the total “Scripture expert” so I don’t think anyone should be afraid of posting their thoughts/questions if they really want to but are holding back.

Hi, I’ve been meaning to “comment” for ages.
I’m not connected to a Dream group, although I went to one once, ages ago. I’m hoping to get along to a few more.
I like receiving the passages by email because it brings God into my day at a time I wouldn’t normally remember him. Sometimes if I’m busy I have to just delete them, but I decided that was ok and since then I’ve enjoyed them a lot more.

I’m Rob – mostly connected to Dream in Liverpool City. I’m a web developer and help Richard with the Dream stuff.

I just want to say that I’m finding this blog format so good for my daily Bible reading. I’ve always struggled to maintain any order to my scripture reading – I’m far less disciplined than I’d like to be and normally end up ’skipping’ bits, sometimes meandering around seemingly aimlessly!
I’m finding that reading these ‘bite-sized’ passages together (prompted by the daily email) has given me a direction - I’m feeling like I’ve started on a real journey with others.

Maybe I’ll feel inspired enough to add to your comments along the way.

Hi I’m Katrina and I am an international Dream Lectio reader! Although I hail from sunny St. Helens I am currently living in Malaysia. Before I left for Malaysia I attended St. Marks in Haydock but have never managed to time things right to attend a Dream session – but I have heard a lot about them from my mum who attends. It was my mum who introduced me to Dream Lectio and although I wasn’t sure if it would be my cup of tea (as I have never been one to read the Bible in my own time) I have found that just reading these bite sized pieces of scripture everyday have helped me feel closer to my church which is so many thousands of miles away. I am enjoying it so much I have passed the blog details to another friend of mine who I work with….so that should be 2 international readers now!

Ello – I’m Jess :) I hail from Liverpool. I attend Liverpool Dream and have been doing so for a long time now. I agree with Rob – I am finding these Bibles blogs a great way to keep up my daily bible reading session – which I admit I am awful at doing normally. I think I prefer to just read and reflect at the moment – I have never been a very good Blogger – although I know if I feel the urge to blog something I will definitely go ahead and do so :) I’ve enjoyed reading all passages so far – although I did get a memory jog when reading the nativity passages and felt really bad for fortgetting how King Herod ordered the killing of all those little boys.

Anyhoo – happy reading and happy blogging :) This is a great idea. Jxx

  6. Julie says:

Hello, I’m Julie. I live and Dream in Haydock. Like others have already said – I, too, am getting alot out of reading the Bible like this. I’ve become much more disciplined / focused as a result of the Dream Lectio format, so that’s a very good thing.

I’ve surprised myself with how “gobby” I’ve been. At first I felt quite self conscious leaving a comment, but this feels like a really safe environment so I seem to have got over that now!

I love it when I see that people have left comments. I’m really getting alot out of reading other people’s ideas, viewpoints and perspectives.

  7. Sharon says:

Hi I’m Sharon, I live not far from Haydock and have been to Dream but not for some time.

I enjoy everyones comments, it’s like the chat you want to have when reading the bible alone but can’t have if no one is there, I love the ‘chewing over’ passages and find throughout that day or the next I will still be thinking about what the passage has said. They are just the right size and it doesn’t feel a chore and I don’t feel guilty if I miss one (unlike when I’m trying to be ‘good’ with my bible reading).

I think this is a great idea, thank you!

  8. Malcolm says:

Hi there. I’m Malcolm from Dream in Liverpool and, with Richard, have had some connection with the other groups in the network too. I’ve been involved in Dream since the beginning and am looking forward to celebrating 5 years of Dream in March of this year (how shall we do that?!) This Dream Lectio is a great way of helping a community (or group of communities) engage in Bible reading together (without having to actually be physically together). I’m especially enjoying reading some familiar passages in ‘The Message’ version, which often puts them in a fresh light. Cheers Richard for sorting it!

    Hi
I am Ellen, I am living in Bristol at the moment. I am training to be a vicar at Trinity College Bristol. My family and I have moved here from Liverpool for a couple of years – we will be back June 2008. Whilst I am having a great time here – learning a lot, meeting new friends, attending a new church and have become part of an emerging church community (www.foundation.org) – I miss Liverpool a lot. Being part of Dream Lectio has been a great way to keep prayfully in touch with home. I have not done as many lectios as I had hoped but it has been a agreat encouragment to me. Love and Blessings to you’all.
